oddo: from joint design to independence

Most startups do not fail on the idea. They fail on everything around it: architecture, delivery, operations.

That is exactly where an experienced engineering partner can help — without taking the startup over.

This is the story of oddo, an appointment-scheduling platform we helped design and launch — and which today stands on its own.

Designed together

oddo (od-do — Slovenian for »from–to«, like a time slot) lets service providers and their clients book appointments online: hairdressers, doctors, therapists, fitness instructors, tutors and many others manage their calendars, while clients find and book services at any time.

Nebula and the oddo team designed the system together: the domain knowledge and product vision came from the oddo side, the architecture and engineering practice from ours. The design decisions were made jointly — and they were made to last beyond the collaboration.

Early development, with a handover in mind

In the first phase Nebula helped carry the development itself. The goal, however, was never dependence: knowledge and code were structured so that the oddo team could take over — and they did.

Hosted in the Nebula private cloud

The platform runs entirely in the Nebula private cloud — the same managed environment our automotive business systems run in, with the same operational care: managed hosting, access control, backups and monitoring. The startup gets enterprise-grade operations without building an operations team.

Across the border, into independence

The collaboration ran across borders — the Nebula team in Slovenia, the oddo team and its market in Serbia. Excellent relations between the two teams turned the distance into an advantage rather than an obstacle.

The result is what every such partnership should aim for: oddo is today an independent and financially sustainable project, serving providers and clients in Serbian cities — while the platform keeps running reliably in our cloud.

The best support for a startup is the kind that makes itself unnecessary.

A closing thought

Partnership with a startup is a different discipline than an enterprise project: less specification, more trust.

But the goal is the same — systems that outlive the engagement.

Design together, hand over deliberately, host reliably — and let the team run.
